Benefits for Authors of the KIO Journal

  • Simplified initial submission — when submitting a manuscript, it does not need to be formatted according to the journal's requirements. Formatting is performed after a decision to publish has been made.
  • Prompt consideration — we strive to ensure rapid processing of manuscripts, with a standard review period of up to 1 month.
  • Quality peer review — independent experts and specialists in the research area of the manuscript under review are invited for peer review. We recommend reviewing our Peer Review Statement.
  • Option to withdraw the manuscript — before the manuscript is accepted for publication, you may withdraw the article without giving reasons.
  • Publication under the CC BY license — you retain copyright, and the article is distributed freely with attribution.
  • Free posting of preprints — you may publish preprints in open repositories or on personal websites.

Publication Ethics and AI Policy

The editorial board of the KIO Journal strives to follow high standards of publication ethics. We recommend that authors familiarize themselves in advance with our Publication Ethics Statement and ensure that they are ready to assume the corresponding obligations.

Authors undertake to inform the editor of all possible conflicts of interest (financial and non-financial), providing complete and detailed information.

Potential sources of conflicts of interest for each of the authors are:

  • patent rights to a product or technology mentioned in the article, or to goods that are their direct competitors;
  • an ownership stake in, or employment by, a company connected with a product or service mentioned in the text of the article, as well as a company that is a direct competitor of the mentioned products and services.

Potential conflicts of interest are declared in the article submission form in the "Conflict of Interest" field. The final decision on which of them are material and subject to disclosure in the publication is made by the editorial board.

The editorial board adheres to a transparent policy regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence technologies in conducting research and preparing manuscripts and recommends that authors familiarize themselves with the AI Policy before submitting an article.

Copyright and Archiving Policy

By submitting an article to the journal, authors confirm that the material has not been published anywhere previously and is not currently under consideration in other publications.

The journal does not object to authors publishing preprints of articles in publicly accessible repositories or on personal websites. The existence of a preprint is not an obstacle to consideration of the manuscript in the journal.

An author agreement is concluded between the author (team of authors) and the publisher of the KIO Journal, under which the journal receives a non-exclusive right to first publication, distribution, and posting of the work in open access. The team of authors retains copyright to their work in full.

The agreement is concluded by the author (team of authors) accepting the public offer (proposal to conclude an agreement) posted on the journal's website. Acceptance of the offer is recognized as the fact of submission of the manuscript to the journal by the responsible author. From the moment the manuscript is uploaded to the electronic editorial system, the agreement is considered concluded on the terms set out in the offer, and the team of authors confirms full and unconditional agreement with all its terms.

Transfer of rights to the publisher under the author agreement occurs only after the manuscript has successfully passed peer review and been accepted for publication. Before the manuscript is accepted for publication, the responsible author has the right to withdraw the manuscript by sending written notice to the editor. Withdrawal of the manuscript at this stage does not require explanation of the reason.

After the manuscript is accepted for publication (the responsible author will be sent a letter with the corresponding decision of the editorial board), withdrawal of the manuscript is possible only with a compelling justification (see 9.1.2 of the Publication Ethics Statement).

A permissible ground for withdrawing a manuscript after it has been accepted for publication is the discovery of substantial irremediable errors or inaccuracies in the data, methodology, analysis, or interpretation of results that cast doubt on the reliability of the entire study. In this case, the responsible author is obliged to immediately notify the editorial board of the identified problem. The final decision on whether the manuscript must be withdrawn in such a case is made by the Editor-in-Chief.

All articles in the KIO Journal are published under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, which allows any person to copy, distribute, transmit, adapt, and use the material for any purpose, including commercial, provided that attribution is given and the original publication in the journal is cited. The CC BY license takes effect with respect to the manuscript from the moment of its publication in the journal.

Authors may store and distribute a copy of the article (the article layout) both before and after its publication. We recommend that authors begin distributing a copy of the article after the journal issue is released, since before its release the article lacks a number of mandatory metadata that help increase its citation.

Manuscript Submission Procedure

The manuscript is sent to the editorial board via the "electronic editorial system." To submit a manuscript, you must register on the journal's website. Then use the "submit material" button in the right part of the screen.

For more details on the submission procedure, see the document Procedure for Submission and Peer Review

Authors have the ability to track the process of manuscript consideration in their personal account on the journal's website.

If the manuscript has successfully passed peer review, it must be brought into compliance with the manuscript requirements and typeset in LaTeX using the journal's template. The deadline for formatting the manuscript is agreed upon by the authors with the editorial board on an individual basis.

Timeframes for Manuscript Consideration and Publication

The standard period for manuscript consideration in the KIO Journal is no more than 1 month. Under certain circumstances (difficulties in selecting reviewers or reviewers' workload), the period may be extended. If the editorial board is unable to meet the review deadlines, it notifies the authors. If, based on the results of peer review, the manuscript was returned to the authors for revision, the period of its consideration is extended by the period of revision and the period of repeat peer review.

Deadlines for acceptance and publication of manuscripts are tied to the journal's publication schedule (4 times a year):

Manuscript submission for No. 1: no later than February 15
Manuscript submission for No. 2: no later than May 15
Manuscript submission for No. 3: no later than August 15
Manuscript submission for No. 4: no later than November 15

Submission of a manuscript within the specified deadlines does not guarantee that the article will be included in the corresponding issue of the journal, since the possibility of publishing the article depends on the availability of free space in that issue, as well as on the results of peer review of the manuscript. In the case of a positive reviewer decision but no free space in the nearest issue, authors will be offered publication in the next issue of the journal. The author will have the opportunity to withdraw the article if the publication deadlines do not suit them.

No author fee is paid for manuscripts.
